"I remember when I first began writing it, I wanted to write an album that I would’ve been obsessed with when I was 14," she said. "I would love to see a punk revolution, and loads of 14-year-old girls with shaved heads. I would love for girls to be able to celebrate this record."
So she’s going for that market now? I don’t mind. That’s cool. The lyrics are completely un-sing-alongable, but tbh you could’ve said that about half of True Romance. The music is still brilliant.
I can’t remember where it was, and I can’t be bothered to find it, but i read an article just after the video for Boom Boom Clap came out where the writer was lamenting the the fact that she was now, apparently, somewhat selling out by making videos with Iggy Azalea and pouting at the camera. This is kinda bullshit, cause she was totally pouting before - it was just through a filter and in a diamond (Nuclear Seasons) which I guess makes it alright?
I don’t know, I guess she has a little, but it was really just cause she came out right after Lorde, and nobody could compete with that - even if they are completely different. (It’s too confusing to have two ~up and coming, popular, dark haired girls making electronic music at the same time).
So, I guess she had to do what she needed to do? I do love it. I just really can’t sing 'I don't wanna go to school, I just wanna break the rules' without cringing at myself a little. Even when I’m completely alone, in my own house.
